Half marathoners will run one 3.5mile loop at above 90% effort (above threshold effort). Cal Int'l marathoners will run two full loops and then down to Milpas and back a mile for 10miles.

Hi, we are 1 week out from the Berlin Marathon (Adrienne and Shayne), 3 weeks out from the Chicago Marathon and 8 weeks away from the NYC marathon and the SB Half Marathon.
We will be meeting at handlebar Coffee on Canon Perdido tomorrow at 6:30am and using the 4mile loop from Chase palm Park up and around Tye Warners place and finishing by the old East Beach Grill Parking lot and for those doing 5miles you finish where you started at Chase palm park.

3mi warmup, strides x 5, 12x60sec@Threshold effort (perceived effort 7-8 out of 10 with 30sec recovery…if you cant recover in the 30sec then you are running too hard/fast)…then after your 12th 60sec repeat, take your 30sec recovery interval then finish with 4min@ same relative effort as the previous 12 repeats, cooldown 2-3miles

Hi, We are in a strength, endurance building phase of the year with Fall Marathons and racing season ahead....so these workouts have been threshold effort (they are self correcting...meaning if you have to walk at any point then you are above threshold effort and slow down!)

warm up 3miles, strides x 5, 2min@threshold effort, 20seconds at above 90% (not straining, but fast), 40sec slow jog x 8....this is 24min continuous run which if done correctly should keep your HR in the 85-88% Max HR threshold zone, 2-3mi cool down
Threshold effort explained: HR@85% if you know your max and wear a HR Monitor, or perceived effort 7-8 out of 10 OR add 40sec/mi to your last 5K per mile race time OR 5-10sec per mile faster than your most recent half marathon race pace. :)

Everybody else:
30x30sec@threshold effort with 30sec recovery jog between each…if you have to stop at any point after any of the 30sec repeats then you are running too hard an effort…slow down. This is 30 minutes continuous.

Workout 3 mile warmup, strides x 5, 2-3x1600@20sec/mile faster than goal marathon pace with 1 minute between, 2 mile cool down
Keep in mind, stopping after 2 x1600 is fine. The purpose of this workout is to aid your carboload…no need to over do it as it is not to gain fitness…the hay is in the barn!
Keep carbs high all day today and 80% of what you eat the rest of the week.
Everyone else:
16x200m at threshold effort with 100m jog (continuous 12laps or 4800 meters).

Boston folks workout tomorrow: walk to Elise Way then run 4miles down past Milpas then turn around and head 2miles back toward Shoreline cafe (6miles total) This is a dress rehearsal starting 10-20sec a mile slower than goal pace to warm up, then getting to your pace by 3miles then 10-20sec a mile faster than goal pace the last couple miles, 4mile cooldown. 10miles total.
Non Boston Marathoners, 40min jog warmup finishing at Elise way, 4mile tempo run down slightly past Milpas/Shoreline.

Since Goleta Beach is closed from storm damage, we will be meeting in the Deckers Parking Lot off Los Carneros Rd and warming up to the UCSB track for the next few weeks until Goleta Beach re-opens.

As Goleta beach is closed, nighttime track will temporarily meet at the deckers parking lot off of Los Carneros, and will warmup by running to the ucsb track. We will use this meeting location for the next weeks until Goleta beach reopens
Hi Guys, two separate workouts. Many have received their specific workout. For those who haven't... Workout #1 is for those racing the Half Marathon. Workout #2 is a threshold workout for those who do not have a race that they are currently training for.
Workout #1
3x400@5K Race Pace with 90sec between, 3min jog, 1600@previous 400m pace plus 4sec (example: you ran your 400's at 96sec, then your 1600 would be at 1:40/400) x 2sets with 4min jog between sets
Workout #2
THRESHOLD WORKOUT
16x200 with 100m jog continuous run...this is 4800m worth of running or 12 straight laps. The 200m segments are at a perceived effort of 80-85% which is an effort at which you can comfortably jog 100m after each repeat and continue jogging.
